Quick Checks Before Your BSS Examination

Don’t get stressed about your BSS!

Follow these quick hints and tips before I arrive to sail through your Boat Safely Examination. If there are any other parts of the examination you aren’t sure about, give me a call and I can talk you through the requirements.

Check your fire extinguishers!

Fire extinguishers are a vital part of boat safety so it is important to check the following:

Is the gauge in the green?

The A & B numbers?

Should be British Kite Mark or equivalent

Do you have enough on board your boat?

Carbon Monoxide Monitors

CO2 alarm Is a requirement on all vessels with accommodation space Must be British Standard or equivalent -and must work!

Battery Isolation

battery isolation switch must be in open view or it’s location labelled

Gas Fittings

Gas hoses must be marked and suitable for purpose - contact me to check!

Fuel Fittings

Fuel lines and hoses must be secured within 10cm of any joint and free from leaks.

Fuel Filling

The fuel filling point must be clearly marked with the correct fuel and any spilt fuel must flow overboard.
